Eat this NOT that: a collection of simple recipes and quick workouts
Four things to avoid before a workout
Working out can be so much fun if it's done right, however there are so many things that can ruin a workout for you and as a result make you less motivated to workout next time. Here is a short list of things to avoid in order to have a great workout!
Don't eat within the hour before you workout. (This might be obvious but it's a mistake I see happen all the time!!) Contrary to popular belief, it doesn't add fuel for your workout. Instead your stomach struggles to digest it and you might feel nauseous or sluggish. Eat after you're done working out.
Don't static stretch. (That's when you're not moving but still stretching; for example bend over to touch your toes for 30 seconds). If you want to stretch your muscles before working out, do dynamic stretches such as high knees. Static stretching can lead to various injuries and you could actually be damaging the muscles since it's not warmed up.
I know you might be sore after a really good workout, and you might be tempted to take Ibuprofen or something right before your next workout to help with the soreness. But DON'T DO IT. While yes it will relieve some pain, it's actually a muscle relaxer which is almost counter productive. It can also cause stomach problems.
I know how popular cleanses are, but avoid going on a cleanse. In order to exercise you need energy, which comes from nutrient rich foods that you don't typically get from a cleanse. Skip the cleanse and keep eating protein packed, nutrient rich foods. (After you workout of course).
